Scotsman Ice Machines

Scotsman ice machines are the most widely recognised ice maker brand and are designed to produce ice continuously, even in more demanding conditions.

These machines produce fine-textured flake-ice used in medical settings and by research laboratories in the educational, biotech and pharmaceutical sectors.

Scotsman ice machine FAQs

What do the Scotsman ice flaker fault codes mean?

All Scotsman ice flakers have built-in diagnostics to assist with troubleshooting and protect the machine in case of a fault.

Note: some of the LED lights on the front panel have different meanings when they’re still or flashing.

Wrong Rotation / Evap Temp

Still: there’s a fault with the auger motor.

Flashing: the freezer assembly isn’t getting cold enough.

In either situation, call the engineer to investigate.

Too Hi Cond / 3' Stand By

Still: the condenser is overheating.

Check and clean the air filter. If this doesn’t solve the problem, the condenser may be blocked and due for a service.

Flashing: it’s normal for the red light to flash for the first 3 minutes when the machine is turned on.

No water

Could mean one of three things:

  • Water supply is disconnected
  • Water pressure is low
  • Water filter is blocked and needs replacing.

Bin full

Still: the machine has shut off under the ‘bin full’ condition.

Flashing: the bin sensor beam is interrupted or needs cleaning/calibration.

Power on

This light should always be on when the machine is plugged in.

More than one light flashing

If more than one light is flashing, this usually means there’s a more in-depth fault and you should call the engineer for advice.

Red reset button flashing

Depending on the model, if the red reset button is flashing, this could mean:

  • The machine is due for a service
  • The machine is overheating
  • There’s a fault with the drain pump.

For assistance, call the engineer.

How should a Scotsman ice machine be cleaned?

Your Scotsman ice machine should be emptied and cleaned at least monthly — but, ideally, weekly. This is in addition to regular servicing by an ice machine engineer.

To make sure the cleaning is done, it’s a good idea to set up a rota and assign responsibility for the task.

To clean your Scotsman ice machine:

    1. Empty the bin and remove any residual sediment and ice from the bottom
    2. Wash the bin thoroughly with hot water
    3. Flush the bin out with a few litres of water and ensure the drain is running freely
    4. Remove and clean the air filter
    5. Sanitise the inside of the bin with your preferred sanitising product (we recommend Clinell, Milton Fluid or a weak solution of thin bleach).

Where is the Scotsman ice machine serial number?

The model and serial number can usually be found on a white label on the back of the unit. On older machines, this label is on the right-hand panel, near the bottom.

Why is my Scotsman ice machine not draining?

There could be a number of reasons, for example:

  • Faulty drain pump
  • Obstructed drain hose
  • Clogged bin drain
  • The machine isn’t level.

The easiest way to fix your machine is to consult our engineer and arrange a service or repair .
